thanks for your answer, this was helpful.
I did not find where there is another mail.jar in classpath, but I found out that putting the mail_1_2.jar and the activation.jar supplied with AnthillPro in the tomcat endorsed directory solves the issue.
Hmm. I have just realized that I am running these tests on my PC, and that for some reason I have a host of WebSphere jars in the CLASSPATH environment variable. Maybe one of these jars contain classes which override mail_1_2.jar. I will also try removing this CLASSPATH env var and the jars in endorsed and see if things work.
