Given my brief usage thus far, here are some thoughts:
Likes
- The Changes tab is a long time coming and is frankly fantastic.
- The My Builds tab is convenient for of course seeing projects I've had
direct impact on.
- Job and workflow libraries: I haven't begun to convert to use the
libraries yet, but it will greatly aid in managing the Anthill configuration
- Project folders: These will really help to unclutter and organize related
projects.
Suggestions
- The My Builds tab is great because you can see recent requests, and
workflows/build lives that you're involved with, but I would like the
ability to see across all projects/users/workflow types as we had on the
main page in Anthill prior to this version. I think a tab called All Builds
available from the main Dashboard page would fit your new UI paradigm in
this way. It would be the same as My Build just not specific to me. I
realize this information is available for each project, but sometimes it's
very helpful to see what's happened recently across all projects and
workflows.
- Gone is the indication a particular workflow is waiting for its quiet
period to finish. Frankly in a continuous integration environment this is
not a bad thing, because one only cares if the builds fails really. However
AnthillPro is more than that. I did like the explicit feedback the
"Determing quiet period" message gave instantly upon checking in changes.
It allows our developers to see something's been checked in and a build is
forth coming, especially for quiet periods that may number 3 - 5 minutes.
- It appears "deleting" a build life marks it as "Inactive" through the
search view, and does still delete it from the server. This is great for
record keeping, but the build life/workflow is still viewable in Recent
Activity views and looks to be no different than a non-deleted build life.
I have no problem with this, however it would be good if that line item
appeared different in some way, for instance, grayed out, different
iconography, etc. to indicate is is deleted/inactive.
- The new popup tray icon is neat. It definitely has some potential. It
would be nice if you could be notified for non-originating workflows as
well, and especially in this case (since they are often used for
deployments) when the workflow begins and finishes.
