[Anthill-pro] Autoincrementing properties

I have a property defined on a workflow called "version" and have defined my DEV stamp to be simply 

${+property:version} 

and I reference it in my job step as 

${property:version} 

as a parameter to the script that is run by the job step. I had intended for this property to be incremented each time the workflow is run but it's always 0 (zero). 

What am I missing?
