[Anthill] Telnet Task Issues

Well, since everyone is being so helpful, and I know this is not specifically an Anthill problem, I figured maybe some of you have run into this as well and possibly a solution.

I have some telnet tasks that do not act as expected.
I expect to run a task and wait until the prompt returns before the next task runs, however, I am seeing in the log (watching it live) that multiple commands are being run at the same time, before any of them finish. I made a simple example that just tars a file, and re-ran it 4 times in the same script, and all 4 run one after another without waiting for the <read>$</read> to get the prompt back.

There may be a relationship between the terminal (xterm) and/or trying to pipe (I was trying to only tar files that were in a previous tar: tar -cf backup.tar `tar -tf other.tar | grep '\.'`)

I'm using Anthill OS 1.8.0264, Ant 1.6.5, JDK 1.4.2_05, on HP-UX 11.11

My Google searches didn't turn up anything, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
